Fiji officially the Republic of Fiji is an island country in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean. Its closest neighbours are Vanuatu to the west, New Caledonia to the southwest, New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands to the southeast, Tonga to the east, the Samoas and France’s Wallis and Futuna to the northeast, and Tuvalu to the north.
Interestingly, Fiji though a small country still attract visitors, many students now consider this island country as a great destination for study. The University of the South Pacific, or USP is an intergovernmental organisation and public research university with a number of locations spread throughout a dozen countries in Oceania. It is an international centre for teaching and research on Pacific culture and environment.
Fiji National University- (FNU) formed in 2010 as a result of a merger between six institutions in Fiji, namely the Fiji Institute of Technology, Fiji School of Nursing, Fiji College of Advanced Education, Lautoka Teachers College, Fiji School of Medicine and Fiji College of Agriculture.
The University of Fiji is a university based in Saweni, Lautoka, Fiji. It was established in December 2004 under academic leadership of the Fiji Institute of Applied Studies and financial sponsorship of the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, a Hindu religious organization dedicated to education. Its website describes it as a “private, nonpartisan and non-profit making university.
The tuition fee in Fiji vary and depends on the type of degree and specifications. Although, the cost is a bit higher for international students than it is for students who live in Fiji.
Those who are not citizens of Fiji or any of the Pacific Island Forum Countries will pay $450 per semester if they take 3 or more courses per semester or $270 for those taking less than 3 courses per semester. 2. Recreational Fees: $10 per student per semester/trimester.
Many students may qualify for scholarships from the schools themselves or from independent organizations. Students may also qualify for reduced rates when they pledge to remain in Fiji and work in certain needed industries.
Eligibility for Study Visas
To be eligible to obtain a Fijian study visa, potential students must follow the requirements outlined by the Fiji department of Immigration. These are granted on a case by case basis and there may be a fee assessed. More information can be found on the Fiji Immigration website.
